Primary Purpose
The Director, Sales Operations, is a strategic leadership role responsible for the strategy, infrastructure, and execution that drives a high-performing commercial organization. This role ensures operational excellence by optimizing the tools, processes, and systems that support commercial productivity and customer engagement across all channels. Serving as the central driver of commercial enablement, performance analytics, and field execution, the Director aligns people, platforms, and performance to deliver efficiency, consistency, and growth.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Operations Leadership
  • Lead the Sales Operations function to enhance the effectiveness of the commercial team through streamlined processes, technology adoption, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Develop and implement standardized operating frameworks that improve field execution, reporting accuracy, and performance visibility.
  • Partner with Commercial Strategy, Revenue Growth, and senior Sales leadership to align operational priorities with core business goals.
Systems, Tools, and Process Optimization
  • Oversee the Commercial Systems Center of Excellence (e.g., CRM, data analytics, and enablement tools), ensuring strong systems integration and usability across the commercial organization.
  • Drive continuous process innovation, leveraging automation and analytics to enhance speed and sales efficiency.
  • Serve as the business owner for field technology strategy and vendor management, ensuring platform scalability and performance.
Enablement and Training
  • Design and deliver commercial enablement programs that build selling capability, improve adoption of tools and systems, and reinforce discipline across the organization.
  • Partner with HR and Learning teams to implement onboarding, coaching, and ongoing training that supports commercial readiness and talent retention.
Meetings, Events, and Logistics
  • Direct planning and execution of National Commercial/Field Meetings and key field events in collaboration with key internal stakeholders (e.g., Marketing, Communications).
  • Oversee product/material distribution and logistics for the field, ensuring alignment with commercial priorities and compliance standards.

Budget and Resource Management
  • Develop and manage the Sales Operations budget, optimizing investment across systems, enablement, and field support functions.
  • Monitor financial performance and vendor accountability to ensure cost-effective resource utilization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a strategic liaison between the commercial team and internal partners (e.g., Marketing, Finance, IT, Supply Chain) to ensure operational alignment and accountability.
  • Champion data integrity, governance, and continuous improvement across all operational processes supporting the commercial function.
Qualifications
Required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Sales Operations, Commercial Enablement, or Sales Strategy, including at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry (ie. Alcohol/Spirits/Beer, Tobacco/Hemp/CBD, etc.)  or a sector with complex distribution/trade compliance requirements. CPG industry acceptable as well.
  • Demonstrated success in driving operational efficiency through systems implementation, data analytics, and process design.
  • Strong understanding of CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce), field technology, and commercial enablement tools.
  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and managing large-scale projects or change initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
Travel
  • Up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with data visualization and Business Intelligence (BI) platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Demonstrated experience managing vendor relationships and technology budgets.
  • Certification in Sales Operations, CRM Administration, or Project Management (e.g., PMP).
  • Master’s degree (MBA or related field).
